Autumn’s Carpet

Autumn's Carpet

Linger now before me;

Leaves of oak and elm

Maple and sycamore;

Spread your blazing carpet

Brilliant in russet and gold

Light my path before me

In overlapping splendor

Oh do unfold!

Linger for a while now

In shades of red so bold

Until the grip of winter

Bears down and chills me

With its cold,

Let me step upon the leaves

Hear the crinkling sound

Crunch your leaves beneath my feet

Let me bask

In the beauty that surrounds
